High School Admissions Initial Consultation (6th-10th grades)

The High School Admissions Initial Consultation (IC) helps families navigate the path to a successful and fulfilling secondary school future, whether private, parochial or magnet. In this initial meeting, we create a customized plan for high school admissions and achievement. During the consultation, our experts assess a student’s strengths and areas for improvement, while discussing both high school and college aspirations. Our experienced admissions coach guides students in making informed decisions about academic courses, extracurriculars, athletics, leadership roles, and community service, ensuring a well-rounded and strategic approach to each student’s high school admissions package.

Deliverables include:

  • Two-hour, student-centered meeting focused on Professional Tutoring’s (PT) High School Admissions Package (HSAP): assessing the student’s academic strengths, weaknesses, subject preferences, extracurricular activities, and long-term college and career goals.
  • Thorough analysis of the student’s academic transcript and standardized test scores.
  • Evaluation and strategic planning of secondary school course rigor, including AP/IB/Honors options.
  • Personalized recommendations for secondary school course selection.
  • Customized plan for standardized testing, including timelines and preparation strategies.
  • Assessment of the student’s academic, social, and athletic involvement, along with their potential for growth in these areas.
  • Insight into extracurricular activities, community service, and leadership, highlighting key opportunities.
  • Evaluation of how academic achievements, extracurricular activities, leadership, and service experiences align with secondary school admissions goals.
  • Detailed review and walkthrough of the high school admissions process.
  • Targeted recommendations to increase admissions.
  • Curated list of potential schools for the family and student to research and evaluate.
  • Expert advice on working effectively with the school guidance department and admissions office.

High School Admissions Package (6th-10th grades)

Who is this for?
The High School Admissions Package (HSAP) supports students and families in applying to private, parochial and magnet secondary schools. In this extensive package, Professional Tutoring’s experienced staff helps students and families to navigate selective secondary school admissions including admissions testing (SSAT and HSPT), Student Resume, applications, essays, and interviewing and touring.

Deliverables include:

  • High School Admissions Initial Consultation (IC)
  • High School Selection Decision Matrix (HSSDM)
    • Customized research for the schools listed in the Initial Consultation outlining up to ten potential secondary schools ranked by admissions probability.
    • One-hour meeting with student and parent(s) to evaluate the HSSDM and narrow the target application list. 
  • Student Resume:
    • Student/Parent Workshop to develop the Student Resume, a holistic and unique personal marketing document showcasing the “whole” student, valued by admissions officers.
    • Resume Review including three to four edits to ensure an excellent admissions branding document.
  • Interview Practice to prepare for meetings with admissions officers and other school representatives.
  • Admissions Essay 
    • Student/Parent Workshop to learn the secrets behind the admissions essay and craft an age-appropriate application essay. 
    • Review and Editing: Support, guidance and editing of up to two admissions essays. 
  • Advocacy: PT will represent the student’s strengths and passions to secondary school admissions officers, as appropriate, through phone calls, emails and in-person visits.
  • Support: Services include: follow-up questions, emails, phone calls, research, admissions contact, etc.
  • Final program choice: The PT coaches support students in weighing their alternatives and committing to a final secondary school.
  • Service length: Up to 20 hours of total service.
