Frequently Asked Questions
How exactly does your Graduate School Admissions Package work?
We begin with an initial consultation to assess the student’s short- and long-term goals, academic strengths, areas for improvement, and involvement in leadership and community service and create a customized plan for graduate school admission. Professional Tutoring accompanies the student through the entire admissions journey: from identifying interests and exploring potential programs to targeting universities, developing and editing professional resumes, practicing for interviews, organizing and completing applications, and refining essays.
Do I have to commit to a full program now?
No, we start with the Initial Consultation which includes a customized plan for the student’s next steps. Upon completion of the Initial Consultation, the majority of our clients move to our full Graduate School Admissions Coaching Package.
Why do we need help in applying to graduate school?
In short, no one knows what they don’t know! Admission to graduate school is a complex and high-stakes process, with requirements and expectations for various areas of study (MBA, MD, DVM, etc.). Students have a short period to showcase their unique academic, leadership, and service. Professional Tutoring’s expert coaches use their decades of experience with higher education and successful graduate school admission to support students and ensure they are well-prepared and positioned for success, including securing merit-based aid opportunities.
What is the benefit of paying for this type of support?
Professional Tutoring has been coaching students in all levels of admission since 1994. Our many years of experience shine through as we guide students through resume development, interviewing and visits, essays and finally choosing the best FIT graduate program.
Who runs the Graduate School Admissions Coaching Service?
Julia Ross guides the process with very qualified supporting staff members.
How frequently do we meet?
There is a concentration of time spent initially to develop the student’s plan, and then there are regular “checkups” along the way. Most students meet with their coach weekly or more, especially in the busiest periods. We meet to draft the student resume, the Graduate School Decision Matrix, to prepare essays and the mock interview. Each student is unique and their development plan will reflect those unique needs. Be assured that we keep in frequent contact. All of our steps are here.
Does Professional Coaching guarantee my student will get into graduate school?
All of the students that have successfully completed our coaching program(s) have been accepted to graduate school and many attend their “first choice” school.
Do you take out-of-state students?
Yes, we have several students who are not local; these include DOD/Military and State Department students as well as clients who find us through word-of-mouth or the internet. We are able to provide all of our services through Zoom.
