Julia Ross

University of Virginia, BA and MUP

Julia Ross grew up in the competitive academic environment of the New York City suburbs. She graduated with Distinction from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts in French Language and Literature with a concentration in Spanish. The degree included Ms. Ross’ direct matriculation at the prestigious and highly competitive University of Paris at the Sorbonne. Upon graduation, Ms. Ross began a management intern program with the government in Federal Property Management and Sales. At the age of 27, Ms. Ross became manager of a team of architects and urban planners. This is where she learned to manage professionals effectively. While working full-time, Ms. Ross completed a Masters of Urban Planning with a concentration in finance, again from the University of Virginia and again with a near-perfect GPA. In 1994, Ms. Ross founded Professional Tutoring, LLC.

Professional Tutoring became a force in the National Capital Area. Ms. Ross became known for her gifted ability to relate to teenagers. Ms. Ross developed an SAT/ACT test preparation curriculum that supports student learning with major results. Instead of guaranteeing a 100-point increase in test scores, Ms. Ross and Professional Tutoring offered average improvements of several hundred points SAT points and five ACT points.

Soon, Ms. Ross targeted the college coaching market. She believes strongly that the college admissions journey should be an enjoyable process in which students and parents consider a wide range of colleges. Ms. Ross’ extensive experience allows her to guide students through the labyrinth of applications, interviews, essays and the little-known world of merit-based scholarships and advocacy.

Since founding Professional Tutoring, LLC, Ms. Ross and the Professional Team have worked with thousands of students. The team supports over 100 students per week in tutoring, SAT/ACT Preparation, and College Coaching. She is respected by parents and loved by her “kids.” The school systems know and respect Ms. Ross in her various capacities. Her insight has helped to shape her daughters’ high school of 4200 students’ college admissions process. Ms. Ross served as the Secondary School Education Representative to the PTA Board of Robinson Secondary School, one of the largest schools in the United States.

Ms. Ross is a nationally sought-after speaker at college admissions conferences.

Ms. Ross’ personal life is full of kids as well. Since marrying, Ms. Ross has had the blessing of three children in her life. Meredith graduated with Honors from George Mason University, then from Catholic University’s MS Business Program and is now studying at Columbia University in NYC. Emma graduated from the University of Mississippi with a triple language major, studying Spanish, Arabic, and French. She spent summers abroad in Jordan and Spain. William will soon graduate from Robinson High School and enroll at Virginia Tech. In addition, the Ross family has dedicated itself to children from around the world. Since 1995, the family has hosted 26 young people from six continents (eleven countries) in medical exchange, student exchange and foster programs.
